Monet lived here before he moved to Giverny and my hosts Fabienne Le Boulanger and Christophe Mouche live near the the thirteenth-century Romanesque church at the top of the hill that Monet painted.
The abstract “Fleurs sauvages” references the wild flowers that bloom in summer along the Seine river’s edge. There was a lot of river traffic in those days and Monet painted it in all seasons.
I will post photos on Instagram of Vétheuil while I am there in May.
